Internet Solutions supplies Wi-Fi Hotspots to Sun International

15 November 2005

Wi-Fi hotspots at Sun City went live over the weekend of 27/28 August. Supplied and managed by Internet Solutions (IS), a leading converged communications services provider, the areas covered include; all Sun City conference rooms, and many of the public areas of the Main hotel, Cabanas, Cascades, the Palace of the Lost City, the Super Bowl and the Sun City Vacation Club.

“As a high profile international resort and conference venue, we felt we needed to offer guests, especially business people, a full bouquet of Internet services. Providing them with wireless Internet access is essential to maintain our global standards,” says Johann Bester, IT Project Manager: e-Business & Technology, Sun International Management Limited. “IS provides us with fully managed services of world-class standards and their customer focus is exactly what we need to ensure always-on access.

”“This brings our total number of hotspots to nearly 80 regionally,” says Richard Vester, manager, Mobility Solutions at IS. “We already have Zimbali Lodge and Gaborone Sun live on Wi-Fi hotspots, with the Royal Swazi Sun and Fish River Sun going live within the next month. Working with a global company such as Sun International has been great. They know exactly what they want for their guests and we are equally committed to meeting their stringent SLAs.”

“The take up of wireless Internet access has been quite phenomenal,” says Vester. “We now have a good cross section of the region’s leading hotels, restaurants, and all the airports. Clearly travellers not only demand the same standards they find overseas, but local business users are finding access at the hotspots to be a simple matter of using their existing passwords or simply buying credit card access.”
International users gain access through IS’ global aggregation agreements, while local users – if already on the IS backbone – use their normal passwords and account information. Provision is also made for instant credit card access and transactions, and unused access time is carried over for use at any IS managed hotspot. IS is the largest hotspot infrastructure provider in South Africa, with a footprint that expands to22000 hotspots globally via a network of global roaming partners.
