Internet Solutions, (IS), a converged communications services provider, and LGB Distributors have joined forces to supply soccer and netball kits to schools in previously disadvantaged areas across the country. This is a one year project to help meet the needs of the less fortunate. 100 schools will benefit from this initiative - 10 schools in Northern Province, North West Province, Mpumalanga, Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, Western Cape, Kwazulu Natal, Free State and 20 Schools in Gauteng.
Kate Michalaro, marketing manager of IS says; “We approached the Sports Trust to assist with identifying the most needy schools in various regions and to get support from the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture. We hope to create positive opportunities in our communities for less fortunate children and teenagers who need the healthy effect of sports.”
“The first kits were handed over to two schools in Mt Ayliss in the Eastern Cape and in Mitchells Plain in the Western Cape - a name that holds the stigma of poverty, drug abuse and gangs. We feel that tangible products will encourage these kids to participate in healthier activities. Simultaneously, sports promote interactivity and team building in these communities,” adds Michalaro.
Each hand-over is attended by the various stakeholders and community members. Roll-out will continue nationally over the next year.
