Internet Solutions and LayerOne Launch Hosted Exchange "Mobile" E-mail

26 December 2005

Anthony Southgate, manager, IS Application Solutions, says; “South Africans are generally very tech-savvy and as such there is a massive demand from users and organisations to mobilise e-mail. This offering enables mobilisation to many more devices, allowing all our Hosted Exchange customers to implement a service with no capital expenditure. The running costs are totally predictable per user.”

The initial offering gives e-mail users with Symbian, Palm or Windows CE devices, as well as notebooks access to their e-mail in real time.  The LayerOne Intellisync Wireless E-mail service uses inherent security and compression features and gives users access from anywhere in the world. IS has plans to further extend this to include device management and data sync for those organisations that require access to back end company information, such as SAP, Siebel, Oracle, etc.

“The Hosted Exchange platform at IS supports over 200 organisations and they will now be able to access their e-mail from their mobile devices, including personal information such as calendar, contact, task and notes information. The range of e-mail account options available from IS, in conjunction with the LayerOne services, makes this the only solution of its kind in South Africa. There are already several corporates that have expressed keen interest in this solution. We feel the user base will grow substantially due to the competitive pricing and added value. Mobile E-mail is the first in a line of solutions that will be extended to these companies,” says Stuart Hardy, MD of LayerOne.
